5 Steps to Visualize your Dream Space -

Explore . . .

Research Design Styles.
  • Exploring your Design Style is a major step to achieve the decor of your dreams.
  • To find your design style, explore every style you find. Choose the style that appeals to you. Or, pull out components to create your own unique style.
  •  Whether it's a new trend or an old favorite, you'll be happiest with what you love.
  • There are always popular trends in design styles, as in fashion.
  • Keep in mind the style of your home, its architecture and layout. Consider your current furnishings if you plan to incorporate these into your decor.

Research . . .

  • Style is everywhere. Any space you enter has a unique style all it's own. These are clues to find your design style. 
  • Check out your local newsstand. Pick up a few decorating magazines. Even browse your local library. Check out books on design and decorating.
  • Surf the web, or check out your local book store. Ideas are all around.

  • Think about how you want to use the room. Whether it's a cozy retreat or an active space for the entire family. Your plan should accommodate your activities.

Evaluate Your Options . . .

  • Take notes about these spaces. Create a file to combine like elements and pictures. 
  • Explore color options, keeping any existing items you would like to incorporate into your new decor.
  • Compare your likes and dislikes. Organize your ideas for easy identification. 
  • Look for a common thread in your collection. These clues will lead you to your perfect design style!

What's Your Vision?

  1. What would like to see in your space?  How do you or would you like to use it?
  2. Create your own personal Vision Image Collection for each space, to determine your own design style.  Combine pictures of rooms and pieces, and ideas that appeal to you.  
  3. Select images from magazines, Pinterest,  Houzz, or any other online design sites of rooms and furnishings you love, or would like to purchase for your space.
  4. Create your files online, on your computer, or print them out and file together under:
  • Styles 
  • Color
  • Furnishings
  • Rooms
  • Accessories 
  • Other Options

Design Tip -

  • Please note your style preferences should develop through similar choices in styles, color, furnishings, etc.  Utilize these choices to your home to develop your own style.

  • A truly modern style developed during the age of minimalism and technology, ushered in by the machine age
  • Comprised of natural woods and smooth lines.

  • This is an exciting in trend in design today. It's composed of simple lines, combining a minimalist use of components, also  natural woods, or metal.
  •  Modern finishes can be developed in rustic textures, or in smooth and sleek finishes. 
  • Color tones have been more neutral is recent years, however, bright splashes of color seem to be reappearing.
  • These are Modern Design Styles used today:
  1. Mid-Century Modern
  2. Eclectic Chic.
  3. Modern Industrial.
  4. Transitional (Modern Traditional
  5. Modern Farmhouse
  6. Scandinavian.

  • A streamlined version of the traditional, with a mix of modern and historical elements.

Traditional design style

  • Traditional style is composed of historic elements, mostly of the 16th through the 19th centuries. Composed of curved lines, plush furnishings & fabrics, as well as ornate accents.

  • A vision of the historical French Country style developed by 17th and 18th century French artisans, Styles utilized by French royalty of the period.
